I NEED a new camera! Do you believe me? If you\’re a photography enthusiast, I know you believe me because you NEED a new camera too! I\’m still using a T2i as my hiking and keep-in-the-trunk-for-emergency camera. So you better believe I\’m excited to be writing a pre Canon T4i review!

I skipped over the T3i, simply because I couldn\’t justify it to myself. Ok, I\’m lying. I couldn\’t justify it to my wife. I thought the rotating screen was a great new feature that I would love to have, albeit one that I would probably rarely use. Other than that it just wasn\’t worth the cost of divorce.

So now we\’re about to see the introduction of the Canon EOS T4i. Touch screen, anyone? Don\’t you want to be the first one on your block who can navigate around his camera without pushing any pesky buttons? I admit that I do… If this rumor is true I really hope it\’s well implemented and not just thrown in as a feature builder. Knowing Canon I have no doubt it will be.

These cameras have become highly regarded by video enthusiasts, producing quality that blows away all but the best digital video cameras. Where Canon has been lacking, however, is in the focusing department. They shouldn\’t expect entry level DSLR purchasers to have the ability or desire to manually focus while shooting video. There\’s already plenty to think about when filming on the move, like not running into things and cracking your head open!

In my Canon T4i review I\’m going to speculate that there will be two kit options available. The first will include the 18-55mm IS II, and the other a new 18-135mm with silent autofocus. The former is my speculation and the later seems to be at least semi-confirmed rumor. I haven\’t personally used the current version of the 18-135mm, but if they can build a lens which produces reasonable overall image quality at both ends, it\’ll be perfect for the majority of the people that buy this camera. I\’ll need to see some reviews on it before I decide, I have a feeling I\’ll go with the body only.

Nothing exciting on the sensor front, it sounds like Canon will keep the 18 mp sensor on this model. That\’s fine because it will be getting the new DIGIC 5 processor. This will greatly improve the unit\’s low light performance, something I\’m looking forward to.

Don\’t you have cables? I think it\’s ridiculous that even on my 7D I need to dig out the cable and physically plug the camera into my computer just to grab one image. WiFi anyone? That\’s right, rumor has it WiFi will be an included feature in the T4i. That\’s almost reason enough to buy one.

Let\’s sum this up. Touch screen, fancy new lens, video autofocus, DIGIC-5, and WiFi. Nice job, Canon. I can\’t wait to get my hands on one of these! Oh one more thing, it seems someone messed up and released a book about the 650D (euro T4i) on Amazon.com. The ship date for the book was the 17th of May. The books been taken down, but the info is out! Look for the T4i to be released on or before the 17th.
