The only way that you are going to be able to improve your skill level as a photographer is if you actually try different tactics. You should make sure that you take portraits as well as black and white. It is super important that you just keep on experimenting with different techniques to find the one that you want to move forward with. Once you do find that technique that you love you need to become as good as you possibly can in that area.
